Using Herbs to Control Acid Reflux

Basil, Caraway, and Ginger are three common spices that can be used in cooking to help ease digestion. Each of them, in fact, have been traditionally used by ancient societies for this purpose. They can be added straight to dishes. It's also possible to make a tea from each of these to drink with a meal.

It's also, ultimately important to remember how you are preparing your food. It's an important factor when dealing with acid reflux. Fatty foods and anything fried should be avoided. As a substitute, you can use applesauce when baking and subsitute broth for oil when sauteing foods. Using certain spices, like the ones stated above, can increase your stomach's ability to properly digest foods as well, cutting down on excess stomach acids needing to be formed for digestion.

Other Herbs that are helpful for Acid Reflux.
There are a host of other herbs that not only help with the immediate symptoms of acid reflux, but also help tone the digestive organs and system also. Two ideal herbs to use are Chamomile and Dandelion. Chamomile is commonly known as a “Band-Aid for the stomach”. Its is well known for its calming and digestive properties. Dandelion root tea is a very effective tonic for toning the digestive system as well as soothing an upset stomach.

Since acid reflux is a disease that is aggravated by stress and poor eating habits, taking these herbs as teas gives a multifaceted benefit. The act of preparing and drinking tea makes you have to slow down, thereby taking a break from stress. In terms of digestion, liquids are more easily absorbable than anything solid, so these teas wont require extra work to digest from an already stressed digestive system. Fluids also help to dilute the acid, which will also aid in calming down the acid reflux.
