Easy Southern Barbecue Recipes

Whenever I see pork tenderloin on sale (buy one get one free) at the store, one thing comes to my mind—BBQ!

You can use any type of pork for your barbecue recipes. I like using the pork tenderloin, as it’s a bit leaner. As far as sauces, the possibilities are endless! From a vinegar based sauce to a sweet, smoky flavor, southern barbecue goes good with just about any type of barbecue sauce.

Easy Slow Cooker BBQ

Ingredients
Directions

  1. Spray the slow cooker with Pam or similar cooking spray.
  2. Place the pork tenderloins in the slow cooker.
  3. Add about 1/2 cup of water to the slow cooker—just enough to coat the tenderloins.
  4. Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours. While some slow cooker recipes have instructions for cooking on high, I’ve found that cooking the tenderloins on low yields a more moist barbecue. If you have to cook it on high, cook it 3 to 5 hours.
  5. During the last half hour of cooking, Remove the tenderloins from the crock pot. Shred with a fork, or a food processor.
  6. Place the shredded meat back into the slow cooker.
  7. Add the barbecue sauce and mix well.
  8. Cook for an additional 30 minutes.
  9. Serve on buns with a side of corn, beans and salad for a well rounded meal.

Grilled Barbecue Recipe

Directions
  1. Heat the grill to medium low heat.
  2. Spray tin foil with a non-stick cooking spray.
  3. Wrap each pork tenderloin (or your favorite cut of pork) in the foil. Make sure the entire cut of pork is sealed tightly.
  4. Grill over medium low heat for 2 to 3 hours, or until it’s cooked through and fork tender.
  5. Remove the pork from the grill and shred with a fork.
  6. Add your favorite sauce and enjoy!

Recipe Tips

Barbecue freezes really well. Simply place the desired amount into a freezer friendly container or bag. Don’t forget to label the bag with the contents and date.

If you’re bringing a meal to a friend or family, consider bringing barbecue as a nice change of pace from the usual casseroles. Just be sure to find out what type of sauce they like ahead of time.

Does everyone in your family have different tastes when it comes to barbecue sauce? No worries—simply leave the sauce until the last minute. Place a large bowl of barbecue in the middle of the table. After everyone adds the barbecue to their plate, they can then add their sauce of choice. Keep an eye out for grocery store sales of barbecue sauce, as they often have a buy one get one free (and you can mix and match).
