While Facebook is great for keeping up with old and new friends, promoting a business, or playing the various games the site offers, it can also be a valuable tool for your Catholic faith.
Here are just a few ways Facebook can be used for our Catholic faith:
Prayer Requests – If you have a prayer need, post it in your status. Your friends will easily be able to add your requests to their prayers, and perhaps even pass on your request to others.
Catholic Groups – There are many groups on Facebook for any and all interests and affiliations. Catholic groups are no exception. One such group is called We’re Not Crazy, We’re Just Catholic. Through search you can find many others as well.
Become a Fan of a Page by Liking It - Okay, you used to be a fan of whatever page, now you like it. There are lots of Catholic oriented pages on Facebook to become a fan of by liking it.
Connect with Fellow Parishioners – You can friend fellow parishioners from your church. Many parishes have their own groups or pages. If your church has one, join. It’s a great way to keep up with the goings-on within your parish.
Connect with Other Catholics – Whether parishioners at your parish or elsewhere, you can friend fellow Catholics on Facebook. Search for well known Catholics and become fans of their pages. You might even meet new friends through these connections.
Many ministries also have a Facebook presence. Seek out those that interest you and join, if they have a group, or become a fan of a page by liking it.
Create a Group or Page – If you head up a ministry at your parish and want to better communicate with your group, create a page or group for your ministry. Groups can be completely public or private, if you so choose.
If you simply want to create a Catholic group or page to educate or to evangelize, or just for fun, you can do that as well.
So if you are on the social media train, be sure to make some faith stops along your journey.
Peace in Christ,
