Fall Style

When you hear the word "style" what comes to your mind? Clothes? Accessories? Furniture? Paint Chips? Style comes in many shapes and colors, ideas and visions. Magazines tout the need for fashion and style. Martha Stewart, Oprah and Rachael Ray bottle it, talk it up and sell it. But whatís your style? How do you incorporate your style into your life? Do you know what your style is? Do you know how to find it? Is it even that important to you?

Style is both broad and narrow. The easiest way to define your style is to ask questions of yourself. What matters to you? In your life are you relaxed or structured? Do you like to clean or are you messy? Are you starched or well-worn? See where this is going?

With respect to your home during the fall season, your abode is the perfect opportunity to discover your own personal style AND begin to implement it where you reside. There are many easy ways you can express your personal style. Making a few changes around your home will both express your taste and personal style while simultaneously assist you to feel prepped for the season.

Start with scentÖthatís right scent, fragrance, smell, whiff. Nothing sets a mood more than a certain aroma. What smells like fall to you? Is it fresh apples? How about baking cookies? Maybe itís a few key ingredients like vanilla or brown sugar. Many people like to switch their latte flavors this time of year. How about when you switch to an eggnog latte, you light a pumpkin spice candle? If candles arenít your thing try a scent diffuser or air spray. The possibilities are endless while the bliss found in setting a fall mood can be exhilarating. Remember, this is your scent. The one you love and you would love to associate as your fall style year after year.

Next clear out summer. Gone are the flip flops at the door Ė replaced with heavier footwear and backpacks. Roll up the grass matt and replace it with a sturdier one to catch the wet and leaves. No more fresh pineapple, strawberries and other fruits. Now we have spicier, heavier scents to inhale. The gourds and soups are gracing our produce markets and kitchens.

Finally bring the constantly changing landscape indoors. Whether its color that reflects the changing leaves or a bare branch in a vase, your style will dictate what causes you to welcome the season. And thatís what we want to do Ė welcome it. So rather than lament the loss of our lazy summer days, welcome the new fall season with scent and color Ė two items only you can define as your own and bring them into your home.
