Wicked Intentions

Hello, and welcome back! Today is the coolest day we're going to have all week, and it's still mid-80s. I cannot wait until fall gets here! At least the air conditioner works well at keeping the house comfortable for my favorite things, like reading and firing up the bread machine. Pretty soon, I think it might be cool enough to dig out the soup pot to go along with the bread machine. For now, though, we're going to stick with the chilled soups.

This time out, I have the latest from Elizabeth Hoyt, Wicked
Intentions
(Grand Central, received from publisher). This one kicks off a new series for Hoyt, starting with the widow Temperance Dews, who runs a foundling home in the slums of London with her brother. Lazarus Huntington, Lord Caire is on the hunt in those slums for the killer of his mistress, and he needs Temperance's assistance. In return, he agrees to introduce her to people who could sponsor her efforts at the foundling home. Temperance knows Caire is trouble from the first night they meet, but even she can't resist the dangerous lord. Caire feels nothing, not even for his late mistress, but he starts to believe Temperance might change that for him, if he can persuade her to let down her guard a little bit with him. Temperance doesn't allow herself to care too much for the youngsters in her charge, as the idea is not to keep them, but to find them good homes or apprenticeships, yet she does care for them, even though she won't admit it to herself or to anyone else. Caire is not above using any means at his disposal to seduce Temperance, and he is wicked, though he quickly realizes he wants more from her than a quick tumble, though she takes far longer to realize her feelings for him. I enjoyed this one quite a lot, which rather surprised me as I haven't loved Ms. Hoyt's previous books. Caire and Temperance are enchanting, and I can't wait to find out what happens to the rest of her family, or to the determined young woman she meets along the way in this tale. I'm borrowing four of Cupid's five arrows for this one.

Until next time, happy reading!
