Deadly Fear

Hello, and welcome back! Still hot and summery here, though I'm holding out hope for fall's imminent arrival. Not holding my breath for that, however. But I have been able to get quite a lot of reading done while staying inside where it's cool, rather than sitting outside in the miserable heat and humidity.

This time I have the latest from Cynthia Eden, Deadly Fear (Grand Central, received from publisher). FBI agent Monica Davenport is known on her team as the ice queen, but new addition to the team Luke Dante knows her far better than most of the rest of the members of the Serial Services Division do, and his knowledge of her is intimate. Monica doesn't let anyone get that close to her, not before and not since, and she has no intention of letting Dante get past her defenses again. But when they're assigned to work a series of abductions and killings together, it's much more of a challenge to keep their past in the past. Especially when Monica's past ties in with their current case. The killer they're after is close, too. Much closer than they realize until it's far too late, as he sets his sights on Monica. Dante and Monica are a terrific team, and Dante is irresistible, as Monica finds out soon enough. While it's slightly different for Eden, in that there's no paranormal twist to the story, it's still got her trademark steam between her hero and heroine, as well as the tight suspense running through the entire story. Monica, despite her past, is a very strong woman, with more capability to love than she ever imagined. Dante might not have the serious wounds to his psyche that Monica carries, but he still didn't get over her, and now that she's so close, he has no intention of letting her go again, especially when he starts to get past the defensive walls around her heart. Seriously hot, this one will keep you turning pages, even if you figure out the villain's identity, just to make sure you get that happy ending you know is coming. I'm borrowing four of Cupid's five arrows for this one.

Until next time, happy reading!
