Halloween is certainly a fun time of the year. Just watching the children purchase their costumes brings a smile to your face. Decorating your home in orange and black can be a fun experience as well. This is a time to enjoy and hopefully the following are some tips to help you.
If you are a single parent with young children, Halloween can present a difficult challenge. You want to ensure your children are safe, but you also enjoy handing out candy to the children. You do have choices. You can ask a trusted adult to accompany your child or ask one of your children's parents to accompany your child as well. If you want to be with your child, just set out a bowl of candy with as sign asking each child to take one. Don't be stressed if they take more, you did your best.
If your children are beyond the trick or treat stage or you have no children, enjoy yourself. Sit at your front door with some candy or more healthy treats and smile at every child. Seeing the joy in their faces will help you remember when you felt that joy.
If you do not want to pass out candy that is fine. Just turn out your front lights and watch TV or read. Perhaps you may also want to attend a Halloween party and dress up as your favorite character. Try to choose something more positive than a witch.
If you want to help other people, offer to pass out candy at an indoor Halloween celebration for disadvantaged children. You will help these children and feel good about yourself.
If you have children trick or treating, please make sure to look at every piece of candy your children bring home. They should all be wrapped and if anything is not sealed, it should be discarded. This is unfortunate, but it is certainly better to be safe than worry later.
It is a certainty that your child will get more candy that he/she can eat. That is fine and there is nothing wrong with sneaking your favorite piece after he/she goes to bed. Just make sure you know when to stop and do not eat too much. It is also important to make sure both your child and you brush your teeth.
