Have you wanted to invest online but were unsure where to begin? Perhaps you want to trade individual stocks. Investing Online for Dummies by Mark Krantz is the book to answer your questions.
Mr. Krantz does a fine job explaining everything clearly and concisely. He covers topics that range from discovering your risk tolerance to choosing a broker. It is important to understand your tolerance to risk since investing in individual stocks is riskier than a mutual fund.
The book has information on how to find mutual funds and exchange-traded funds if you do not want to invest in individual stocks. It explains asset allocation and how you can keep track of your investment’s performance. Also, you can find lists of online tools to calculate your performance in this book.
One of my favorite sections details what role a broker plays in your financial life. The author details the differences between the types of brokers. He provides a list of brokers for each category. The information is so clear that you will understand it even if you have never dealt with a broker in your life.
Another favorite section explains financial statements. It is critical to understand these documents if you will be trading individual stocks. Why, you ask? The answer is that financial statements give you the opportunity to see how a company is doing. You can glean a lot about the health of a company and whether it is profitable. You don't want to invest in a company that isn't making money.
I really like the Dummies series of books. They take a complex subject and make it understandable. This book is the same. It provides a wealth of online resources to improve your investing success. There are resources that provide an analysis of company financial statements. Plus, resources to understand industry trends and more.
The book makes it easy to pick up a section you are interested in and start reading without reading the whole book. Just interested in how to place trades? There is a section specifically explaining trading. Are you interested in staying safe online? Investing Online for Dummies provides information to keep your computer and your financial information secure.
I highly recommend Investing Online for Dummies. This book would be perfect for someone who is beginning to invest in individual stocks. Also, it lists a wealth of resources for investing information. Here you will find lists of websites to track the market, blog sites discussing various investing topics, and financial sites that analyze stocks. One of the things I like best about this book is these online resources.
I borrowed this book from my local library for this review.
