The old saying is that, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” however, I believe that the vision that is beheld by others is projected from the soul of woman of how she truly feels about herself. A positive body image is painted by a woman’s own self-esteem. Unfortunately, many women compare themselves to others and look to society to define how they should feel about themselves.
In the Body Image newsletter I will cover how the mass media shapes positive and negative body image issues in women. I will also provide worksheets, meditations, affirmations and hypnosis techniques that will help you tap into your personal charisma and authentic beauty.
Can you imagine what people thought about their physical appearances prior to the invention of mirrors or reflective surfaces other than bodies of water? Media and body image are interrelated concepts that I will frequently write about. The media conditions men and women into believing that only certain body types are beautiful. The type of beauty that is celebrated in the media is usually unattainable by the average woman.
Subconsciously or consciously when women look at the appearance of perfect female bodies without stretch marks, blemishes, or protruding tummies they compare themselves to these illusions of perfection and beauty. And when they feel that they “don’t measure up” they begin to feel bad about themselves and develop a negative body image. In the Body Image Newsletter I will discuss techniques that you can use to be cognitively aware of how not to let these media images affect your self-esteem.
