A number of new succulents will be available in 2011. These include some truly hardy ones as well as some tender varieties. Here are details on some of those.
Aloe Delta Lights
This exciting new variety is hardy to zone eight. It makes a great houseplant. In addition, Delta Lights is suitable for outdoor gardens in warm climates.
It is noted for its distinctive foliage. This features zigzag ribbons of dark green and cream. These colors form crosswise patterns on the leaves.
Sedum Autumn Charm
There are several new versions of the ever-popular Autumn Joy. One of these is Autumn Charm. This hardy perennial has cream and yellow variegation along the margins of the toothed leaves.
Autumn Charm has an upright, clumping growth habit. Reaching 1½ feet in height, it is hardy to zone three. This has the characteristic pink flowers that one sees in Autumn Joy.
Sedum Autumn Delight
This has large, bright green foliage with yellow and darker green variegation. Autumn Delight can reach two feet in height. Hardy to zone three, it has toothed foliage. The flowers mature to a light pink.
Sedum Summer Glory
This variety of two-row stonecrop is one of the beautiful ground cover plants. An evergreen, it is six inches or less in height. This dense plant has spreading stems and attractive, toothed, dark green foliage. As fall arrives, the leaves begin to turn red. The biggest surprise is the bright pink blossoms that are very long lasting. This variety is hardy to zone three.
Pereskia Lemon Vine
In recent years a number of exciting varieties of this species have been released. Unlike most cacti, this species has leaves. Lemon Vine is named for its colorful golden foliage. This variety is especially suitable for outdoor container gardens, especially hanging baskets.
Sedum Chocolate Ball
One of the ground cover type stonecrops, this plant forms a very neat mat. It is only eight inches tall. The creeping stems are covered with tiny, needle shaped leaves that are chocolate brown. Hardy to zone four, it is recommended for rock gardens as well as beds and borders. This would also be a good choice for green roofs and green walls.
