Trusting Natural Instincts

Have you ever had one of those days where the temperatures are just right and for whatever reason you smell everything and begin feeling a connectedness, almost a surreal moment where everything feels more of a whole instead of separate or insignificant?

The other day it was unusually warm! We don’t have a car, so, after a month of freezing temperatures I decided to release the dozen or so library books I had been holding hostage over the past month and continue walking the extra mile on to the local market.

All of the geese we had seen swooping into the area just a few days before seemed to be doing an about face, now heading in the opposite direction. What was so inspiring, though was the view and the fact the walk was a 3 mile one, you could watch the scene unravel, like a movie almost and it made you wonder whether or not they knew something that you didn‘t? 3 Days later we had a complete whiteout, winds that popped the balcony furniture right over the edge and temperatures well below zero.

I could replay my “walking” movie in contemplation. I remember every detail of the geese that goosed me! The precision of their flight, the silent communication between the 100 or so members. They utilized every detail of their flight!

The “V” seemed to feel designed to make the most out of their velocity…as if by their own instincts, they simply knew it reduces travel time. Strays would leave their destination and join the larger group and the geese in the front would drop back at times, almost as if they were taking turns, while the back ones increased their speed to fill the opening gaps. Right above my head I said to them, “Watch’a doing headin East?” As if wanting to grace me with enlightenment, an immaculate turn in perfect synchronicity commenced and onward they continued their travels, South.

The entire experience lead me to revisit all of nature’s perfection. Nature utilizes everything and wastes nothing. Our own personal instincts tell us pretty much everything we need to know, but how often do we use them or accept what it is they are trying to tell us?

Intuitively we usually know whether we can trust someone or not. But other times when we have an intuition of precaution and resistance, are we forcing our trust because we want to be able to trust them or are they truly trustworthy? First instincts usually tell us just that. You are either fond of someone or inexplicably distant for some reason. Again, why they're called “Natural Instincts" and why they might just be some of the most valuable reasoning to follow!
