General Facebook Task List

Whether you are just setting up a Facebook account or are familiarizing yourself to your Facebook account again after a hiatus you want a check list to review and update your account settings. It is recommended to review your account and security settings periodically to make sure things are up-to-date with changes you and Facebook have made over time.

1. Personalize your Username in the General Account Settings.

Facebook allows users to select a personalized username. Update this as soon as you can to increase your chances of finding the name you want. This becomes part of URL which links directly to your Facebook profile.

2. Link to other major accounts in the General Account Settings.

Link to any other accounts you have with Google, MySpace, Yahoo!, MyOpenID, Versign PIP and OpenID. Linking your accounts automatically logs you into your Facebook account.

3. Allow subscribers under the Subscribe Settings.

If you use your Facebook account for business and pleasure allowing subscribers enables users to get your public updates without them having to be a friend.

4. Add a phone to your Mobile Settings

If you donít have a smart phone or tablet with Facebook or social media apps sending you updates, you can tell Facebook to text messages to your phone.

5. Update your About information on your Timeline.

The About page is where you share your previous Work and Education history, share Basic Info and Contact Info and can write an About You short bio,

6. Add a Facebook Cover image on your Timeline.

Add a custom cover image on your Facebook Timeline that shares the best of you. The image size needed is 850 pixels x 315 pixels which you can customize outside of Facebook before loading or which will be resized and/or cropped for you in Facebook.

7. Add a Facebook Profile Picture image on your Timeline.

Add a custom profile picture image on your Facebook Timeline. This is your Avatar seen whenever you post. The image size needed is 180 pixels x 180 pixels which you can customize outside of Facebook before loading or which will be resized and/or cropped for you in Facebook. It appears cropped when on posts so you may want to customize a smaller sized image about 160 x 160 pixels perhaps that you can place on a 180 x 180 pixel square. Then when you post your original image wonít be truncated on Friends lists or on your posts.

These are just a few general account and cosmetic updates to keep your account up-to-date and fresh.
