My new magazine the winter issue of Ladies Link Fore Golf has an article by Nancy Lopez called Giving Back: A Gift for the Soul”. In this article Nancy talks about the Charities she has been involved in for a long time. The two special charities that she has been involved with for many years is AIM Adventures in Movement for the handicapped plus the Albany Community Hospice. I have always admired Nancy for her talents as a golfer this article proved to me that Nancy is a great person and willing to give of her talents to help others.
In this article Nancy describes in detail how she sponsors Golf Tournament Events to help support these charities. Nancy describes how the money she raises for these charities is used by the AIM foundation and the people it has helped. She describes how she went to Dayton, Ohio where the AIM headquarters is located and saw for herself how the handicap adults and children are helped by Dr. Jo and his staff. She was so taken by the people she met and the good they do and she continues to have her golf events annually to help raise money through golf.
He has recruited other LPGA golfers such as Morgan Pressler, Chris DeMarco, Natalie Gulbis, Amanda Blumehurst along with Peter Jacobson for her 30th anniversary of the AIM Charity event in October this year at the Lopez Legacy Country Club in The Villages in Florida. Nancy says she could never do all these things alone and by having golfing professional willing to had their talents and entertainment is always a plus for these events.
Another charity of Nancy’s is the Albany Community Hospice in Albany, Georgia where Nancy lives. She said when she moved there she wanted to get involved with a local charity. It seemed Nancy golfing events have benefited this charity for the past 25 years. She said it has grown throughout the years and have totaled in the millions during that time. She said the Hospice has grown to be able to open a beautiful Wilson Hospice House that has benefited so many people who are going through an emotional time facing end of life issues.
Within this article Nancy talks about how grateful she is to all the volunteers who have offered their services plus the golfers and staff who all make these events so successful. She made a special thanks to Kim Bauer, Rosie Jones and Christina Kim, Rosie and Kim played for her in the 2005 U. S. Solheim Cup. She mentioned that Rosie will be captain of the 2011 Solheim Cup and that she plan to make the trip to Ireland to cheer on the American team. Kim Bauer has played in the Hospice event for 22 years and Nancy said she seems to be a fixture around there and everybody loves to have her help. Nancy says to get involved in a charity as it will rejuvenate and energize you when you see the good it will do and it truly is a gift for the soul.
