The series is set in the year 2017; at this time, music is delivered in a technological fashion. A pop group called Lemon Angel had made it big, but only performed on large flat screens that served as ad spaces for the city the series is set in. One day, the band suddenly disappeared without a trace. The actual story of the series begins a year after Lemon Angel's disappearance.
Tomo Minaguchi is the main character in Lemon Angel Project; she's clumsy and loves to eat. She finds out that Yui, her deceased sempai, had some kind of involvement with Lemon Angel. Tomo is invited to join an audition to find a new Lemon Angel band by Ryouta Kogure (a friend of Yui's), who informs her that it was Yui's wish for Tomo to sing the songs that Yui wrote. Tomo reluctantly agrees to be part of the audition.
Saya Yuuki is Tomo's best friend, who was once a magazine model and a cosplay model. She is assertive and can be stuck up, but will defend her friends against rivals. Erika Campbell is another good friend of Tomo's, who came to live in Japan from Brazil with her adopted brother. She was constantly picked on by her peers for being a foreigner.
Miru Nagisa is the smallest member of the group, and tends to dress in a Gothic Lolita style. She is soft spoken and doesn't talk or sing much unless she needs to. Fuyumi Sakakibara grew up as a successful childhood actress; she is also shy and has a heavy conscience. Miki Suwa is the leader of the group, although she didn't try out for the role. She had helped Yui to create the original group, and they were good friends.
Lemon Angel Project takes elements from Japanese idol singers and high school anime and combines them to make the core of this series. Visually, I saw nothing objectionable for younger viewers to see in this anime. Also, I didní't have any issues with the language being used. I also think that this series will have more of an appeal to a female audience than to a male one. Personally, I would recommend Lemon Angel Project to female anime viewers who are 12 or 13 years of age and older.
