The Parrot Finch is a colourful, active bird that comes in several varieties. There is the Red Headed (or Red Faced or Red Throated), the Blue Headed (or Blue Faced), the Forbes (or Tri Coloured or Blue Breasted or Timor), the Pin Tailed, the Bamboo (or Green Tailed or Tawny Breasted), the Peale’s, the Mindanao, the Royal, the Papuan, the Manila (or Green Faced) and the Pink Billed Parrot Finch.

When I decided to write about the Parrot Finch, I only knew about the Red Headed and the Blue Headed ones, so I was surprised to find the rest while researching. Since most of the articles I found only mentioned the first two, it is most likely that the other varieties are not easy to find on the market. They are however, beautiful birds, as you can see here by clicking on their names.

The activity level of these birds makes it difficult to keep them happy in a cage, meaning that a flight or aviary would be a better place to house the Parrot Finches. As with most of the smaller, active birds – just because they are small does not mean that a small cage is ok.
