Weekend Entrepreneur

Weekend Entrepreneur: 101 Great Ways to Earn Extra Cash by Michelle Anton and Jennifer Basye Sander is a great book if you are considering starting your own business or if you just want to earn some extra money.

Many people get second jobs to help them pay off debt or finance a big purchase or just to increase their income. The authors of this book suggest starting a weekend or part-time business as a way to accomplish those same goals. It is also a great way to test the waters of business before you quit your job and sink all your savings into something that just might not be right for you.

Anton and Sander include some basic business advice in the book, such as testing your market, finding groups and associations to join to learn about your new line of work, paying attention to trends, and even a whole chapter on business promotion tips.

There is also a pretty deep appendix of business resources in the back of the book.

Plus, this book is current and up-to-date. With the rapid changes in technology, there are new things out there in the time it takes to write about what’s hot right now, but Anton and Sander are current in their information.

The business ideas are organized into four sections—making money using your physical labor, making money creating and selling products and services, making money online, and making money selling information. This can make it easy for you to concentrate on one section looking for similar ideas, but do explore the others for fresh ideas, too. But if you know you want to make things to sell, you will find tons of similar items in one section.

I loved the ideas in this book because they include many that you have heard of, such as pet sitter and window washer and some newer ideas such as henna painting and etiquette classes. And, almost every business has a story of someone who has taken that idea and made money with it.

Here are some of weekend entrepreneur ideas you’ll find in this book:

Things to do (the physical businesses):

U-Pick Herb Garden
Organic Lawn Care
“Rent a Husband”
Personal Concierge

Things to make and sell:

Cigar Box Handbags
ID Kits for Children
Bridal Accessories
Lavender Specialty Products

Online Business Ideas:

Electronic Hookup Specialist
Virtual Assistant
Niche Music Sales
Wedding Favors

Information Sales Businesses:

If you are looking to start a business or just need some extra money, this book is a great place to start. You will find some good information and 101 ideas to consider. You might find one that fits you perfectly.
