Would it live up to its title or be just another mild mannered instruction book on daily prayers?
The author, Dutch Sheets, begins by asking, “Who is in charge?” and “Who is governing your world?” Good question.
Mr. Sheets talks about authority.
The root word for authority is author.
God is the Author and the Creator so He possesses the authority.
Satan has power in this world but he doesn’t have the authority.
The reader is impressed with the importance of knowing that Christ, by rights of creation and ownership, has all authority.
Christians, the church, are to live lives characterized by purity, submitting to Christ’s authority. By putting God in His rightful place of authority in their own lives believers pray with the power that He delegates.
Jesus used the Greek word ekklesia, that is translated church, meaning a people of God “called out” from the world.
To the Greeks, ekklesia meant an assembly of people set apart to govern the affairs of a state or nation
To the Romans, it meant a group of people sent into a conquered region to alter the culture until it became like Rome. They infiltrated government, social structure, language, schools, etc. until everyone talked and acted like Romans.
This is not the ‘church’ many of us grew up with, but it is the church God meant us to be.
As the church starts praying with authority it will begin taking back the schools, cities, and governmental institutions that have operated, for too long, without acknowledging God’s supremacy.
The book is well written and entertaining. I was intrigued by the telling of story after story of God’s intervention. More importantly, it is biblically sound. Authority in Prayer is a book for the Christ follower who is ready to go deeper into a relationship with Him. Don’t read it if you are happy with coasting in life. It is a powerful book that will cause you to think about your responsibility to use your authority for God’s purpose.
Dutch Sheets is well known for his passion for prayer and intercession. Besides being a best selling author, he is senior pastor of Springs Harvest Fellowship in Colorado Springs, serves as an instructor for Destiny Bible School and is guest lecturer for Wagner Leadership Institute.
