There is no denying the fact that ABC’s Shonda Rhimes has the Primetime TV magic touch. She is the creator of the long –running series, Grey’s Anatomy as well as the wildly popular show, Scandal. There is also no denying the fact that Rhimes has another winner with How to Get Away with Murder.

How to Get Away with Murder (HTGAWM), stars Academy Award winner Viola Davis as Annalise Keating, an attorney who doubles as a law professor and teaches a class by the same name at the fictional Middleton University. The show centers around five of her students (Wes, Connor, Michaela, Asher, and Laurel) that she selected to intern at her law firm. In addition to the five interns, Annalise has 2 employees (Bonnie and Frank) who help with day-to-day operations.

In the first season, Annalise’s husband, Sam, is murdered. The show bounces back and forth between present day and flashbacks as the season progresses. The big question is, “Who killed Sam?” In addition to Sam, a college student, Lila is killed. Annalise believes that Lila’s killer was Sam. During the show, we learn that Sam was having an affair with Lila. It’s also uncovered that Lila was pregnant. After Sam is killed, Annalise and her students work to protect the killer.

In addition to the ongoing plot of Sam and Lila’s murders, every episode provides a new case that Annalise has agreed to take. She and her interns and staff, work all possible angles to defend their client. Annalise also has a rough past and heavily drinks to cope. It is during this time that she verbally lashes out on those around her.

The show is very fast-paced. If you like Scandal, then you will probably like How to Get Away with Murder. The show has an interesting plot, which makes it a good show, but in addition, the side legal cases add interest for anyone who likes legal dramas in particular.
