Women Motorcycle Riders

Are you one of the many women that long to ride their own motorcycle? If so, why aren't you riding? Do you make excuses for why you can't ride like you are too short, not strong enough, motorycles are too big, too dangerous, they cost too much, etc. I say, "Life is short, get out and ride"!!!! I have included a video of my former motorcycle club and the incredible group "Women of Harley". It will defintely get you revved up and ready to ride. The Women of Harley groups' enthusiasm is contagious.

In the last ten years women motorcycle riders have nearly doubled. Women now make up about 12.4 percent of the riding population and 25 percent of all new motorcycle sales purchases (Motorcycle Industry Council owner survey). This is astounding, since most advertising is aimed at males and manufacturers are only now beginning to produce certain bike styles suited more towards the average women's height and frame.

Here are a few reasons for riding: Sense of accomplishment and confidence; friendship; adventure; and that feeling of freedom. You are the master of your destiny and in charge. You are one with the universe on a bike.

The sense of accomplishment and confidence that comes with riding your own bike is indescribable. It's like climbing Mt. Everest. It is pulse pounding and liberating. It isn't any wonder why women want to try it, or anyone for that matter. Simply stated, it makes my blood race and my heart smile! Every one has their own reasons but once you get bitten by the biker "bug" you are hooked for life.

Motorcycle people are a special breed of people. They don't judge you, but welcome you with open arms. Whenever two bikers come together, a conversation develops about their bikes and experiences. If you are broke down on the side of the road, rest assured another biker will stop and see if they can help. Biker people can be a doctor, lawyer, mechanic, or just a person that lives day to day. You share common interests and a bond from enjoying the freedom of the road.

Riding is an adventure waiting to happen. The song, "Born To Be Wild" reflects that feeling of adventure and freedom and always plays in my mind while I am tooling down the highway. You never know what is waiting around the next bend or what great people you will meet.

The feeling of absolute freedom while you're riding down the highway with the wind in your hair and nothing between you and the next stop but miles is incredible. You have no one to account to but yourself. You rely on your skills and your bike to get you to your destination. As the saying goes, if someone has to explain it to you, you just don't get it and probably never will (at least until you try it for yourself).

Until next time, ride often and ride free.
