Writing Group Style Quiz

The idea of a writing group can sounds appealing to many writers but there are many different types of writing groups and they serve many different writing needs. Answer the questions below to find out which form of writing group would suit you and your writing best:

1)You would be most likely to write:
A) Under a tree by a lake at sunset
B) Somewhere you have never written before just for the heck of it
C) At a large, shiny desk on a nice fast computer with all the right software and surrounded by all the books you need.
D) In a bustling coffee shop that wifi on your laptop
E) A deep, dark basement or room in a high tower

2) You get your biggest inspiration from:
A. Prompts and other writing exercises
B. Life itself
C. Any of the many professional writing journals you have lying around the house
D. Others
E. Your imagination

3)Your biggest challenge in writing is:
A. Getting inspiration
B. The monotony of writing
C. Feeling that you are creative enough
D. Knowing if it is good enough
E. Finding time alone to write

4) Your writing projects mostly include:
A. Outlining, writing, and drafting all in a precise order
B. Many projects in varying stages
C. One project at a time, worked through until the final draft
D. Those that you are working on and those that you have farmed out for others to review
E. Those that you keep hidden from others in your computer and those that you print out and keep hidden in your briefcase.

5) Your writing schedule tends to:
A. Be a regular time each day of the week.

C. Revolve around the project you are working on at the moment
D. Be the best that works for your lifestyle
E. Work best when you carve our time when others are not around

Mostly A’s :Structure oriented writing group Your most ideal writing group would include prompts, free-writes, flash fiction, timed and other exercises that help to get your juices flowing. It would most likely be lead by someone experienced and have a regular structure to it that you come to expect and rely on.

Mostly B’s: Writing Group with a Lot of Variety Your most ideal writing group is on that relies on nothing other than the unexpected. It would include a nice mixture of prompts, readings, workshops, presentations, and visitors. It would always keep your entertained and inspired to go home and write some more.

Mostly C’s: Writing Group with Specific Goal You are looking for something very specific out of your writing group so pick wisely. You may write to one genre, or want only a group lead by a professional or one only composed of professional writers. Be sure to join a group that suits your very precise goal.

Mostly D’s: Critique Only writing Group You are really just looking to mingle with other writers and learn from each other. You have no problem giving and receiving bitingly honest critique and know that your writing would be better from it.

Mixed: You would probably be happy in any multitude of writing groups. No need to be picky here!

Mostly E’s: No Writing Group Although the concept of a writing group seems appealing, the truth is, you are really just more of a loner. Writing is something that you do by yourself and there is nothing wrong with that!
