Spring Curriculum Ideas

Usher in Spring with these fun and educational ideas!

1. Complete a lapbook after reading The Parable of the Lily.

2. Take your games outside! Now is a perfect time to bring out the bubbles, chalk, jump rope and balls for plenty of outdoor fun. Make the bubbles educational by hypothesizing about the wand sizes and bubble abilities. Or, complete your math studies outside with colored chalk.

3. Make a homemade kite. Check out this amazing pdf on kitemaking:

The instructions are clear, easy and educational.

4. Make flower handprints! Dip your child's hand in child safe paint and imprint it near the top of a piece of construction paper. This will be considered the bud or flower part of the flower. Your child can draw the stem and leaves, or you can paint it. Simply stamp your child's feet to make the leaves in paint. Be sure to have soap and water and towels handy to clean up, though!

5. Complete a gardening unit study and plant a garden! Check out the awesome Montessori guide link below for a comprehensive unit study resource:

6. Paint, draw or color nature! Grab your portable easel or a sturdy drawing pad and head outdoors so your homeschooler can depict nature. Water color paints, regular paints, colored pencils, markers, crayons or colored chalk all work well. If you use colored chalk be sure to use a dark colored paper so the colors will show up. Your child can draw nature as they see it, or listen to the sounds of nature and draw what they hear. Either way, this is an artistic and creative outdoor project.

7. Enjoy PE outdoors with old favorites, such as kickball, softball and relay races. Gather a group of fellow homeschoolers to join you in the fun at a local park or recreation area.

8. Read under the shade. Check out one of the Spring themed stories at Amazon and enjoy a reading hour under your favorite tree. Bring a blanket, picnic snacks and enthusiasm. Happy Spring!
