Crispy Treats

Crispy Treats

  • 3 T. butter or margarine
  • 4 cups miniature marshmallows or 1 bag regular size marshmallows (10 oz. )
  • 6 cups crispy rice cereal

Preparation -
In a large saucepan over low heat. melt the butter or margarine. Stir in the marshmallows until they are completely melted. Remove the pan from the stove. Add the cereal and stir until it is well mixed. Grease a 9" x 13" cake pan with butter or margarine or spray it with non-stick cooking spray Place the mixture in pan. Use a spatula to spread the mixture evenly. Cool, then cut into squares. Wrap the squares individually in plastic wrap and store in an airtight container.

Variations - Add any of the following ingredients -

  • Add 1 cup mini chocolate chips -
    After removing the saucepan from the stove, stir the chips into the melted marshmallow before adding the cereal.

  • 1/2 cup M & M's candies

  • Add food coloring for any holiday.

  • For Valentines Day - Add a 1/2 cup of red hots cinnamon candy hearts.

  • For Easter - Add 1 cup tiny jelly eggs.
    After greasing or spraying the pan with non-stick cooking spray, spread the candy evenly over bottom of pan, before adding the cereal mixture.

  • For peanut butter crispy treats -
    After adding the marshmallows, before adding the cereal, stir in 1/2 cup peanut butter and mix until smooth.
