The current actor with the “license to kill”, Daniel Craig, has had a lengthy career in film. We take a look at some of the action movies the actor has appeared in as well as other interesting tidbits.
Daniel Craig was born March 2nd, 1968 in England. After working in theater, he made his feature film debut in the 1992 French movie “The Power of One”.
Since then the talented actor has played a wide array of characters in a variety of films. This includes a number of action flicks on his resume including the characters Master Kane in the family/adventure “A Kid in King Arthur’s Court” (1995) and Sergeant Telford Winter in the war film “The Trench” (1999). He would then star opposite Angelina Jolie as the uncouth adventurer Alex West in the blockbuster “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” (2001).
From the “Lara Croft” movie, Daniel Craig would change roles and portray the evil Conner Rooney in the action/adventure “Road to Perdition” (2002) starring Tom Hanks and Paul Newman. In 2004 he would play the lead role as XXXX, a drug dealer trying to get out of the business, in the action/drama “Layer Cake” for which he received a best lead actor nomination at the U.K.’s Empire Awards. He would also portray Rudy Mackenzie in the thriller “The Jacket” (2005) and star opposite Eric Bana as Steve in the critically acclaimed movie “Munich” (2005).
Daniel Craig then went on to beat out several other contenders for the highly sought after role of super spy 007 a.k.a. James Bond. Not only was he the first blonde James Bond but he was also the first actor to play the character who was born after the death of the author and 007 creator Ian Fleming. His first foray as Bond in 2006’s action packed Casino Royale garnered him a BAFTA and Saturn nomination as well as a win for best lead actor at the Empire Awards.
Other than action films, Daniel Craig has received critical praise for his work in the drama “Infamous” for which he received an Independent Spirit Award nomination. He has also starred as poet Ted Hughes in 2003’s “Sylvia” starring opposite Gwyneth Paltrow and “Elizabeth” (1998) with Cate Blanchett. He has even ventured onto the small screen, appearing in “Sharpe’s Eagle” opposite former Bond villain Sean Bean and an episode of the horror show “Tales From the Crypt”.
The actor’s upcoming film projects include a second James Bond film and a role in the war drama “Defiance”, both set for release in 2008. He will star opposite Nicole Kidman in two films set for release in late 2007. The first is the sci-fi/action/thriller “The Invasion” where he will play the role of Ben and the other is the fantasy/action/adventure film “The Golden Compass” where he will play the role of Lord Asriel. “The Golden Compass” will also reunite him with Casino Royale costar Eva Green.
