Love is in the air. Couple meet, date, fall in love and get married. Without God, unwise decisions can be made with detrimental consequences.

There is nothing like spending a relaxing day doing absolutely nothing but catching up on television shows. On this day in particular, crime tv aired an episode about a couple that met and fell in love. Sounds good right? Well, this couple were opposites. It is often said that opposites attract.

The young lady was a college student, as well as a store clerk that was considered a good girl. The young man, on the other hand had a criminal background. The young couple went on to get married. The young lady’s dad was opposed to the relationship, but they went ahead with the marriage.

Shortly after the marriage, her personality began to change for the worse. She quit her job, as well as school. They became vigilantes. Long story short, they both were killed in the end. This was a true story. I had to wonder what happened. What made an innocent young lady fall in love with and marry someone that she appeared to have nothing in common with?

The bible says in 2 Corinthians 6:14: Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness?

When choosing a husband or wife, we often follow our hearts. Two people meet, fall in love and get married. That sounds like a fairy tale. The emotions have much to do with the decision.

We are a spirit that has a soul that lives in a body. Philippians 3:3 tells us for we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. When we take this scripture into consideration, we should spend more time praying about the person that we should marry. Our flesh will focus on the wrong thing. Our flesh in carnal, so we will not focus on spiritual things of God.

We can’t begin to even discuss love and marriage without looking at the word love. There are three types of love. They are: agape, eros, and phileo. Agape is the love that the Holy Spirit gives us to love one another unconditionally. John 3:16 tells us that God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son. That is unconditional love. Eros is erotic feelings between people who are intimate in a sexual way. Phileo is the type of love that two friends have for each other. This love is platonic.

If we were to have agape love for one another, the divorce rate would be practically non-existent. Husbands could love their wives, and wives could respect their husbands. Because they would be equally yoked, both could serve the Lord with gladness and honor Him with marriage.

Marriage is a lifelong decision. It must be taken much more seriously. The decision that is make will have some type of effect on both parties for the rest of their lives. Decisions should never be made until we hear from God.
