Sorenstan Back in the Winner's Circle

Annika Sorenstan has found her game back winning the Michelob ULTRA Open in Kingsmill at Williamsburg, Virginia by seven shots for her 72nd career win. Annika won for the third time this year and won her present tournament in convincing fashion with all four rounds in the 60’s. She was 19 under par as her game has returned to the winners circle. She still is a long way from Lorena Ochoa for the Number One player in Women’s Golf but after this tournament Annika is back.

This was great for Callaway Golf as Annika was using all Callaway equipment even down to the Callaway ball. Since she is a professional advisor to the Callaway Golf Company it gives them great pride in listing all her wins including the FT-5 Driver, Fairway woods and irons as she posted scores or 64-66-69-66 . This was Annika’s first career win at Kingsmill Golf Club and gave her a career win of $22 million in earnings.

Sorenstan’s remarks after play said that it felt great, amazing and remarked how she really liked this golf course and seemed to always play well here. She said that this is the way she used to play hitting fairways and greens. This tournament always draws the best players and she felt it was kind of like their Players Championship. So winning here was great since she missed out playing here last year.

Her playing partner Christina Kim remarked that it was good to see her back to when she was the No. 1 player and said her game was flawless is the best way to put it. It is never flawless for Annika as she believes it possible to make birdies on every hole. She was close to that as she had five birdies on the back nine including three in a row. She was putting for birdie on most every hole.

Her work in the future is to make a few more putts and to get some distance on her drives but playing this week as about as good as it gets. With her third victory this year and as most say no threat to Ochoa who has five wins already this year but you never know what the rest of the year will bring. Annika remarked that she was always so focused on golf and now has other interests and feels like a well rounded person and has a better perspective on things.

Sorenstan is planning a January wedding to her fiancé Mike McGee. Annika has had outside interests that had been taking her away from her golf game. She has started an Annika Sorenstan Academy in Florida that held her from playing in many tournaments last year. She also had back problems that kept her away from her game. Since being on the Callaway staff with golf lesson tips to the Golf magazine it took up much of her time. Now Annika is back to show she can win again. Annika says that you get a different perspective on things and see it in a different light once you step away for awhile.
