Wood thrushes can be found all over the eastern US but are most common in the DC area and in neighboring states. It has been in decline in recent years, in part due to humans moving into its wooded territories. Cowbirds are also known to lay eggs in wood thrush nests, pushing out the native chicks to insert their own babies.
Wood thrushes eat mostly bugs and spiders. They lay a clutch of 2-4 eggs. They are well known for their melodious songs in the mornings and evenings.
