Where can you find a million flowers? At the Macy’s Flower Show, of course.
2003 marks the 29th year Macy’s has held this event.

In fact the show features over a million flowers. The crowning glory of the event is a seven-foot topiary made completely of flowers.

This year’s show is a global event in which six continents are represented with 30,000 different plant species. The motto for the show is “A World of Flowers.” Various events are planned especially for children.

The show takes place from April 13 to April 27. From start to finish, it is packed with exciting presentations.

At the flower show you can have your cake with flowers if you like. Celebrity chefs will demonstrate the culinary use of flowers. Chef James DiStefano of the Blue Fin Restaurant will combine fresh flowers with fresh fruit compotes. Pastry Chef Elizabeth Katz of Fiamma Osteria will use fresh flowers to decorate celebrity cakes.

Macy’s Broadway windows are decorated with flowers to recreate scenes from the books of Eric Carle, well-known children’s author and illustrator of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.”

Each day there will be a different Bouquet of the Day floral designer. These celebrities will give special presentations.

Joyce Tenneson was be on hand to discuss and sign copies of her new book, “Flower Portraits: The Life Cycle of Beauty.” She was recently honored as Photographer of the Year by PMDA.

Floral expert and entertaining expert Preston Bailey, one of the Bouquet of the Day floral designers, will be there to meet visitors and sign copies of his best-selling book, “Preston Bailey’s Design for Entertaining.” Celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Joan Rivers, and Laurence Fishburne have chosen him as their entertaining expert.

The other Bouquet of the Day floral designers will include the following. Philip Baloun of Philip Baloun Designs combines florals with a theatrical touch. He is an event planner, décor and lighting specialist, and theatrical designer. For the Washington Opera Ball in 2002 he created towering bouquets of pink and coral flowers in a forest of palm trees. For flowers he chose coral peonies, fresh cherry blossoms, and hot pink lilies.

Rebecca Cole is an award-winning author and floral designer. She owns Cole Creates. Her books include “Flower Power” and “Paradise Found: Gardening in Unlikely Places,” published by Clarkson Potter. For her daring designs, she uses fruits, vegetables, and other unusual materials.

Ursula Gebert, works out of Matterhorn Country Florist. Matterhorn, a 15-acre nursery, is considered the premier nursery of the Northeast. Matterhorn is a design and production partner in the flower show. Gebert is noted for her very creative designs that reflect the nature of the event and the client’s personality.

Olivier Giugni of L’Olivier Atelier is a native of Provence, France. He brings an instinctive French touch to designs in which color and fragrance are prominent features. For one event he arranged a bouquet of green goddess calla lilies in a glass vase so that their stems formed a spiral.

Simon Naut is co-founder of Blue Ivy, Inc. It was voted one of New York City’s top five florists. He brings an elegant simplicity to designs.

Renny Reynolds is an internationally recognized floral designer. He was a renowned floral consultant to the White House. He is a New York event planner, decorator, and legendary floral designer. At one party he floated giant, six-foot-wide balloons above the tables.
