Famous Mothers in the Bible - #2
Mothers of the Bible Quiz - Question 2 of 6
John the Baptist - He was a prophet who prepared the way for the Lord. Who was his mother?
Mary
Elizabeth.
Bathsheba
No, but the woman we want was Mary's cousin. Mary visited her when she (Mary) was pregnant with Jesus. The unborn, John the Baptist leapt in his mother's womb when he heard Mary's greeting.
She was a godly woman and a descendant of the honored priestly line of Aaron (Moses’ brother) She was married to a priest named Zechariah.
The two of them were blameless and enjoyed a clear conscience. Even with her heritage and commendable virtues, Elizabeth lived with shame. She was childless and well past her childbearing years, in a society where a woman’s value was largely measured by her ability to produce children. She was likely considered by others to be cursed by God. However, God had plans for her that no one knew. In her old age, God allowed her to give birth to a prophet. He showed everyone that nothing is impossible when it comes to God's plan.
No, she was not John the Baptist's mother but we'll talk about her later.
On to
question three.
