Marg Helgenberger and Sela Ward - A Study In Contrasts

Marg Helgenberger and Sela Ward are two Emmy nominees with contrasting but very striking hair styles and color. Each maintains her individualized style, looking very fashionable without being a carbon copy of anyone else.

In CSI, for which Marg Helgenberger was nominated for the Emmy, she wears a flippy layered bob cut. When her character, Katherine Willows is searching the crime scene for evidence, her tosseled layers fall back into place whether she is crawling around on the floor or under the shrubbery. To get this look, you can start with a bob cut anywhere from the jaw line to the top of the shoulders. Leaving the bottom layer blunt, you will add long layers throughout and long fringy bangs. For straight, fine hair like Ms. Helgenergerīs, you will need to use enough product to give it body and control with out making the style stiff. I suggest using a strong mousse or gel designed for fine hair, using Velcro rollers or a large curling iron, combing it with your fingers and finishing it off with one of the new spray wax products to give the style definition.
Ms. Helgenbergerīs hair color is a vibrant, sassy, light auburn. This can be achieved with a light auburn tint and then using a highlighting technique to add tiny blonde strands for texture.

Sela Ward wears a sultry and sophisticated style that seems to be always in control. Whether worn long and all one length or shorter with smooth layers and bangs swept off the face, the sleek lines of the style are best suited for the rich dark brown color of her hair. This style is achieved simply by assuring the luster by keeping it in excellent condition and occasionally using a product to increase the shine. Using mousse or gel is advised if your hair is fine and tends to be fly-away. It will also be of use in adding fullness to the crown if your hair tends to go flat in that area. Use some large Velcro rollers or a very large curling iron to give the style a slight curve and lightly spray with hair spray.

Ms. Wardīs color can be achieved by using a dark brown tint. However if your hair is medium brown, an interesting technique is to lowlight by weaving fine strands of dark brown into it. This gives a very natural effect since the strands of hair will vary in tone giving a feeling of depth to the color.
