August Releases

Hello, and welcome back. I hope the hot weather isn´t keeping you from your reading. Especially since there are so many new romances hitting the shelves now. In between my rounds of mulch-hauling and flower-planting here at the new house, I´ve been doing a fair amount of reading. As a matter of fact, I have three upcoming books to share with you this week, so let´s get started.

First up is Dear Impostor
Dear Impostor
by Nicole Byrd (Jove Historical). Psyche Hill is trying desperately to find a husband so she doesn´t have to marry her cousin and so that she can gain control of her inheritance. Gabriel Sinclair falls into her plans quite by accident, but goes along with them to avoid his own problems. A rather sweet story, and you´ll enjoy their manueverings to avoid her uncle and the thugs who are after Gabriel. I´m giving it three of Cupid´s five arrows.

Next up is Sandra Kitt´s She's the One
She's the One
(Signet). Deanna Lindsay hasn´t seen Stacy Lowell for years, and her first sighting now is in the morgue, with Patterson Temple, who apparently knows way more about Stacy than Deanna. And when Deanna finds that Stacy has appointed her guardian of her child, Pat is worried that she can´t live up to Stacy´s expectations. This couple starts out with a lot of misconceptions about one another, and unfortunately I don´t think there´s nearly enough romance in the story. Much of the book is taken up with Deanna dealing first with her boyfriend and work, and then her struggles to make her life work with a child in it. I´d call this more women´s fiction with a romantic thread, rather than a romance. While I liked the book, the romance has earned only two arrows--not a keeper for me.

Finally we have The Devil's Heiress
The Devil's Heiress
by Jo Beverley (Signet). Clarissa Greystone has, by some stroke of fate, become the heiress to a fortune, and now lots of "gentlemen" are after her as a bride. George Hawkinville--Hawk--needs her fortune to save his family. What neither of them knows immediately is that the fortune should be his anyway. I really liked these characters, and loved that we got to revisit characters from the first "George" books. While Hawk is the last of the Georges, I feel certain we´ll be seeing them again with a follow-up--I won´t spoil the surprise, but if you´ve been reading the series, you´ll have a clue what I´m referring to anyway. This one´s earned four arrows.

For next week, there are three more upcoming releases. Let me know what you think of these books. And until next time, happy reading!
