Kimberly Cannon is the name: gardening and writing is my fame. Formerly a native of windy-city Chicago but for the past couple of decades (plus), I’ve become a Texas gal. Growing up in the chilly, wintry atmosphere of the Midwest, I had longed to find a warmer climate. So, after high school, I clicked my heels and took a chance in following one of the most handsome, smart and funniest men (a young stud then), a girl could be blessed with. After attending college we decided to remain right here in the hot and sunny Texas. (Wow, has our dialect changed over the years). We, high school sweethearts later married, had beautiful, intelligent heirs to the kingdom and added the cutest Chihuahua ever, named Lucky; the rest is humorous history.
The Cannon crew makes my life worth living, but it’s the aspiration I have for gardening and the passion for writing that keeps me living. These addictions are God-given talents and that makes it all the better. It all started with inquisitiveness, then access to knowledge that brought about small hands-on, skills through various ways of gardening. Being self-taught of both interests, my gardening and writing skills have advanced and improved over the years. Many are amazed at what I’ve accomplished just by putting my hands in the dirt and writing about it; it’s all creativity and eagerness. I wake up thinking about gardening and thank God everyday for another day of life just so I can garden, write and live life to the fullest. If I may say so, we have one of the more beautiful, landscaped, tropical gardens created this side of the Gulf Coast.
My passion of writing and gardening has given me adventurous and memorable opportunities like volunteer gardening projects for the elderly and creation of school memorial gardens. Presently, I am establishing my very own small, landscape business that progresses each year. Though I am an amateur writer, I’m thankful the opportunities given me to spread my wings: I write commentary for the biblical classes at church; tips and gardening advice for the community, monthly newsletter. I plan to expand my writing skills and hopefully attain many aspirations as a writer but for now, I am increasing my horticultural and botany knowledge and keeping my fingers dirty with earth. My hobbies other than the obvious include listening to classical, jazz and easy listening music, attending theatrical events and I am an avid reader but my main interest is to attain more spiritually. I also am a life member of the National Home Gardening Club and of the Arbor Day Foundation; my specialty is tropical (warm-climate) gardening.
I especially look forward to being your new source of information on various topics in the world of gardening. Hope to hear from you soon!
