• 2 cups flour
• 1/2 tsp. baking soda
• 1/4 tsp. salt
• 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
• 1/4 cup granulated sugar
• 1 1/2 cups M & M's

Combine the flour, baking soda and salt. Layer the ingredientsin a one quart canning jar starting with the flour mixture, then brown sugar, then granulated sugar, then the M & M's, pressing each layer firmly in place before adding the next layer. You can use either regular M & M's or the mini-baking size. For Christmas you might want to use the red and green M & M's.

Place a two-piece lid on the jar. Place a circle of fabric over the lid. Secure with a piece of thin ribbon or raffia.

Attach a card to the jar with the following directions -

Preheat the oven to 375º. In a large mixing bowl, combine 1/2 cup softened butter + 1 lightly beaten egg + 1 teaspoon vanilla. Mix until well blended. Add the cookie mix and stir to mix all the ingredients together. Spray two cookie sheets lightly with non-stick cooking spray. Drop the cookie batter by rounded spoonfuls, 2" apart, onto the prepared cookie sheets. Bake at 375º for about 12 minutes or until the edges are very lightly browned. Allow the cookies to cool on the cookie sheets for about 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
