Will Father Francis X. Seelos Be Canonized?
Will Francis Xavier Seelos be canonized? The likelihood of this happening is a
very real prospect now, and it's all due to the presence of two miracles, with
one being the very unbelievable recovery of 8-year-old Caroline Crouch.
Father Francis X. Seelos was a much-loved and caring Bavarian, who devoted his
time to his churches, as well as to the many German immigrants who came to New
Orleans. Father Seelos led a very blessed life up until his death from yellow
fever in 1867.
Pope John Paul II officially stated that Seelos was a candidate for sainthood
back in 2000. Seelos was beatified on April 9, 2000. Because not only was this
special man, very loving to all the needy that he tended to in his service of
God, but there was also other outstanding evidence that led to Pope John Paul
II's decision.
It was also reported by the Vatican, that back in 1966, prayers were made
specifically to Seelos to help a housewife from Gretna, Louisiana. This woman
had been stricken with a progressive form of cancer, and prayers to Seelos it is
said, helped to perform a miracle on Angela Boudreaux. This miracle came in the
form of her cancer completely vanishing.
This was one miracle, in addition to a recent other, which could and would
lead to Father Seelos being canonized as a saint. The other is without a doubt,
the amazing survival and recovery of little Caroline Crouch, who was afflicted
three years ago with a deadly viral infection at the age of 6.
Caroline Crouch's story is truly a miracle, for the little girl was very near
death, when her mother and other family members began to repeatedly pray to
Seelos and other heavenly forces to help make her healthy and sound again.
Caroline's prognosis by doctors wasn't encouraging at all, for they thought
that if the child ever awoke, she would most probably be a vegetable due to the
brain damage sustained by the viral infection.
But when the little girl came to, spoke, and did this and that like any other
normal child. It totally stunned everyone including her doctors. For sure this
was a definite miracle.
News of Caroline Crouch's unbelievable recovery reached the Catholic Church
and got the attention of a Vatican priest who was working on behalf of Father
Seelos. So will Father Francis X. Seelos be raised to sainthood soon? The answer
is probably yes, with two documented miracles under his belt, as well as a
faithful and growing procession of followers. Who will continue to pray in his
name for those who are beset by illness and overwhelming odds to get well.
