The breezes are warmer, the sun is up longer, and the scent of daffodils are all at work brightening our mood. The freshness of the season inspires new and recurring fashion trends that will carry us into summer. Here are five of my favorites fashion trends for plus size fashionistas to look forward to:
Ruffles are holding on from last season except they will be less structure and stiff and will exude more femininity. While the trend for last season seemed to be more for multiple layers of ruffles you will find that it is less overpowering this season so much so that anyone can wear them. Ruffles are appearing on tops, dresses, skirts, scarves, even swimwear.
One of the hottest colors palettes this season are barely there colors -- the palest of pinks, yellows, and blues. They create an ultra feminine mystique for blouses and dresses. While a pale piece here and there will make a great addition to most women's wardrobes some will even be able to pull off monochromatic pale hues from head to toe (with a dash of red lipstick). If the pale colors wash you out wrap a bright colored scarf at the neck in a complimentary color that suits your skin tone -- i.e. pale yellow with deep purple looks amazing!
You may not think crop tops are an option for plus size women but they are a fun layering piece. Cropped vests, shrugs, and jersey Flashdance tops create a fabulous contrast over maxi dresses and camis. Crop tops will be an essential layering piece this summer. Do try it at least once.
True maxi dresses are still all the rave this season and well into next. Think solids, color blocking, and flowery prints. But what makes a true maxi dress? If you can see any skin above the tops of your feet then it is not a maxi dress it is just a long dress. May companies are mislabeling their dresses so keep an eye on the length.
The 70s are back! Luckily you can pick and choose your favorite parts of 70s fashion. Do not wear them all at once or you will look like you are in costume. Essentials to keep an eye out for are fringe purses, jackets, tops and dresses; tie die prints (both pale and bold); wide legged pants; and the widest of brim hats.
Any of these trends may be combined with one another for spectacular results; like a pale blue blouse with ruffles or a pale blue maxi dress with a dark persimmon hat. Have fun with this seasons trends without letting them rule your closet.
