Woman Dies From Fall At Endymion Extravaganza
49-year-old Maxine Gartman, who was originally from the New Orleans area, but had been living in Bulverde, Texas. Became the tragic victim of a fatal fall, which claimed her life on Sunday, amid the revelry of the Endymion Extravaganza in the New Orleans Superdome.
Ms. Gartman was seen by eyewitnesses, standing up on a chair, which was placed on top of a high Superdome viewing platform. She was springing forward to catch the many beads being thrown, when she lost her footing on the chair, and then went spiralling down from the high platform to the concrete floor below.
No blame was placed on the viewing platform, which was said to be structurally sound, what happened to Ms. Gartman was just a terrible accident.
In all of its 33-year history of carnival partying in the Superdome, nothing so tragic as this, has ever befallen the Endymion Extravaganza before.
Ms. Gartman died at Charity Hospital at 2:00 a.m., where she had been taken, not long after suffering her fall. She was a native of Algiers, Louisiana, and is survived by a son and daughter. In addition to her second husband as well.
This is just one painful reality of Mardi Gras, so it makes one truly wonder, is it really a good decision to brave the massive crowds and unsafe conditions in order to get a trinket of Fat Tueday? I think after hearing about this, my answer would be a RESOUNDING NO, as it isn't worth your life or the life of your child to get a pair of beads or a doubloon.
