Further Tips for Accssing Your Intuition

Here are some further techniques that people have found enable them to access their intuition in an effective manner. Each one by itself can be very powerful but, by combining them with your own creativity, they can form a royal road to tapping your inner senses to improve both your Pagan practice and your everyday life

Working with the Divine

By contacting a Deity associated with the area that you seek intuitive information on you can not only obtain information, but also have a reasonable chance of influencing events to turn out the way you want should you wish to. Especially if you do this as part of the sacred space and ritual working. In some Occult Systems this is called “Meditating on the Energies” and is usually done at the end of a ritual for maximum understanding of the energies that have been evoked and worked with. This can

Enhance feelings of love and gratitude on all levels of the mind and personality

This is a way of safely dissolving the barriers of your own Self to enhance your sensitivity. This practice allows you to be more open to intuitive information from your own mind and other realms but still being able to have a core sense of self which stops this experience tipping over into neurosis

Keeping a written record

This is very important on a number of levels. It’s amazing how fast intuitive knowledge and experience can become distorted or fade with the passage of time. By keeping a journal or “Book of Shadows” and chronicling what happened as soon after the experience as possible you can stop both of these things from happening.

Physical exercise and diet

Both of these are greatly overlooked by many Pagans that I know. A balanced diet is important for both physical and mental health, helping the mind to function at its best on all levels. If you are following a restricted diet such as vegetarian or vegan it behoves you to check that you are getting all the right nutrients and that it is the right diet for your biology. One of the classic problems that can be made worse by the above mentioned diets is B12 deficiency which in many cases can be ameliorated with medical aid and modern food supplements. Exercise doesn’t have to be the 2-4 times a week down the gym type either, walks in the countryside and swimming. Modern takes on traditional exercises, such as Chi Running, can be just as beneficial as regimented exercise and have the added advantage of attuning you to nature and the elemental worlds.

Find good Teachers

Very important indeed, in most cases you have to ask around a lot and be prepared to have a few adventures along the way. I was lucky in that early on following the Pagan path I helped out in a respected Pagan/Occult shop and was soon able to discern between the good, the bad, and the downright weird. Don’t be in too big a hurry to joint a group immediately, but go to various Pagan and New Age shops and other gathering places. After a while just being around different types of Pagans you can begin to work out which ones you want to learn from and with.
Do the best you can until you know better, then do better.

Art and automatic writing

These are two of the most effective ways of contacting your intuition if you have artistic skills and/or have some experience in using self-suggestion to induce a trance. Rest a pencil or other drawing implement on the paper and start making slight movements and allow them to develop into something more elaborate. One art medium whom I spoke to said that she started by drawing parts of a face repeatedly and as quickly as possible – eyes were her favourite – and frequently she would go on to draw a face that someone in her audience would recognise.

And finally:

Playfulness and games

Too often trying to tap into your intuition is blocked by a serious attitude, approaching this subject with a sense of playfulness seems to bring the best results. This is the reason that learning skills such as divination, remote viewing, and psychokinetic skills are first experienced as games after a Sabbat, Esbat, or festival celebration. The conscious and subconscious minds are more closely linked than usual by the ritual that has just finished, there may still be some magickal energy about, and people are more open to their innate skills than usual. This combination can lead to some excellent results because inner and outer critical voices have been temporarily silenced.
