The Passion Soundtrack Goes Gold

The soundtrack for the “The Passion of The Christ” has remained atop the billboard Contemporary Christian chart for the sixth straight week since it debuted, and the CD has been certified gold (for shipments of 500,000 units) by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), according to Jerry Weimer, president of Integrity Music.

“The Passion of The Christ” official movie soundtrack scanned 23,208 units for the week ending April 4, according to Nielsen SoundScan, making it the number one best-selling Christian music album again last week. Meanwhile the movie, while moving down slightly on the weekly box office charts, has moved up to the #10 best-selling movie of all time, passing the $330 million mark in box office receipts, according to Box Office Mojo.

This CD proves the power and appeal of music that so many moviegoers wanted to extend their experience of ‘The Passion of The Christ’ by purchasing the soundtrack. We feel honored to be able to be a small part of the whole ‘The Passion of the Christ’ phenomenom.”

“The Passion of The Christ” original motion picture soundtrack is the only recording that contains the music from the film. The film score, which was composed by John Debney, brings an atmospheric texture that complements the Caravaggio-inspired cinematography of the film. The soundtrack also features haunting vocals and chants provided by Shannon Kingsbury, Shankar and Gingger, the Transylvania State Philharmonic Choir, The London Voices and Mel Gibson, who co-produced the soundtrack with Debney.
