Fabric Rose Tutorial - Making the Pin

attaching feltNext, I cut a piece of matching felt large enough to cover both the pin and the stitched back of the rose. I cut two small slits in the felt for the pin and clasp to slip through. Using matching thread and a small whip stitch, I sewed the felt into place, covering all of the stitching on the back of the rose. You could also glue this down, I suppose, but this is a sewing website, after all. *grin*

Pink versionHere is a pink rose that is rolled more loosely to give you an idea of how you can vary the look by how tightly you gather the strip and roll it. Play around with your strips until your flower looks the way you want it to. This rose is 2 inches tall and 3 inches wide.

Beige flowerThis is one of the flowers that I plan to use on the pillow (once I make 47 more, yikes). You cannot tell from the picture that it is larger than the others, but I cut this strip 5 inches wide and used the entire strip. The finished rose is about 2 1/2 inches tall and 3 inches wide.

I hope you enjoy this project! Happy Sewing!

If you are interested in making more fabric flowers, here are some books to give you more ideas!
