Tails - Book Review

Tails a lift-the-flap book by Matthew Van Fleet. The board book is for children between the ages one and four-years-old.. It is a pull a tab book just for babies and toddlers. It is a wonderful board book for them to explore the natural world of animals.

Tails are fun. They are one thing children often notice about animals, whether they are wagging or hanging or curling around a branch. Tails celebrates many different kinds of tails. Children can pull the tab and touch the fluffy, spiny or bumpy tails. The board book is great for blind children who explore the world by touch.

The illustrations are playful, with cute wild animals romping and prancing as their tails do their stuff. The peacock shows off smooth, shiny-blue feathers. Pull a tab and make the fox tails “wag-wag-wag” or the pig tail “swat-swat-swat” the flies.

The final two-page spread shows and labels all the book’s animals again. They are numbered 1 through 10, giving youngsters a fun counting practice. Readers are invited to go through each page to spot and count the specific types of animals, again.

A healthy body is as important as a healthy mind.
