Winter perfume scents are not the same as holiday scents. Although, you can certainly use a lot of the same blends for winter perfumes. Winter scent blends have a tendency to be heavier in aroma than the rest of the year. Why? Because they not only penetrate your skin, they penetrate the air as well.

Cinnamon, nutmeg, pines and citrus blends seem to fill the air when it comes to winter scent blends. You'll find them in combination in candles, diffuser blends and potpourri. This is great for home decor blends, but what about personal/signature perfumes?

Tips to Consider for Winter Perfume Blends

Look for what are considered heavy scents. You’ll want your perfume to have patchouli, vanilla and/or sandalwood as its base. The base note oils will ultimately be the scent that you smell 2 or 3 days from later.

Winter spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom are excellent spicy scents for your blend. They are often referred to as Orientals that have a rich exotic aroma. Patchouli and oak moss are often paired together as well.

Wearing Your Winter Blend … Take it Up a Notch

Winter means bringing out the heavy sweaters and turtlenecks. With the coats and sweaters you get double long sleeves. Your perfume can not penetrate these layers as they do in summer. Your application of your scent will change.

Continue applying your scent blend in your usual places. You'll also want to add it to the back of your neck and under your armpits.

Creating a scent wardrobe will help enhance the wearing of your perfume. A scent wardrobe is when you apply a body oil and/or body butter as you exit the shower or tub. Applying these products to your moist skin will allow for absorption and your skin's ability to hold the scent longer.

Warm spots such as your arm pits and under your breast will also aid in the lingering of your perfume. Once you’ve oiled and buttered your body, you can then add your perfume as another layer.

Do not spray your clothes. Yes it's tempting but perfumes often contain alcohol and you could ultimately end up staining your clothes.

Finding the perfect scent ...

As with anything worth having, it takes time to find the perfect scent. You will oftentimes test blends for years before you find one that you really like. Don’t be discouraged. Your quest for the perfect scent can ultimately produce 2 to 3 special blends.

Know that winter perfumes can be worn from year to year providing your hormones don't change the smell of the blend.
