It all started with Survivor; the love affair between Rob and Amber that has blossomed into a full fledged career in front of the television cameras. They met during the Survivor: All Stars season and quickly formed a quiet alliance. Rob was known on the show for being obnoxious, with a Boston accent that grated on many nerves but with a conniving and shrewd approach to the game, while Amber consistently flew under the radar allowing Rob to play bad cop to her good cop among their tribe. . During the show, neither of them knew if their budding relationship was real or if they were being duped by the other as a security net on the show.
All questions were answered during the reunion show where Amber was voted as the winner of Survivor: All Stars. She collected a cool million dollars and an engagement to Rob, when he dropped to one knee while the cameras filmed the faces of their family members seated in the audience.
After the engagement, Rob and Amber were on the covers of every magazine in the newsstand and appeared on all of the morning news shows to share the excitement of their impending nuptials. CBS quickly took the opportunity to snag rights to airing their wedding and agreed to pay for the honor by footing the bill for the shin dig. Their 15 minutes of fame didn’t get truly annoying until they became contestants on the Amazing Race 7 this season.
Many people question their need for the show, since they have already won a million dollars on another reality TV show. It’s pretty clear that they didn’t have to go through the same process that all other applicants experience to get on the show, either. More than anything, it’s evident that their placement on the show is all ratings. Had they not already been semi-famous from their stints on Survivor, they wouldn’t have been in the running and it’s likely their presence means that another deserving couple is sitting at home watching this season. There is nothing fair or just about it.
On the Amazing Race, Rob and Amber continue their cop roles while playing dirty to try to snatch the million dollar prize at the end of the race. They have stolen cabs that were meant for their cast mates and bribed his way to a delay that cost the others time in their game. They don’t play fair and if they win, it will still be unfair because they shouldn’t have been on the show in the first place.
Rumor has it that Rob and Amber, whom he affectionately calls “Ambuh” were married and their wedding will appear as a special on CBS in May. With that, we can all hope that the sands of this 15 minutes have finally run through the hourglass.
