The 1929 Beverly Hills Cookbook by Joanabell Lewis, also known as the Silent Screen Cookbook in print is a wonderful collection of recipes from stars popular back in the early 1900's. It was started by the Beverly Hills Woman's Club back in 1929 and stars such as Joan Crawford, Carole Lombard, William (Hopalong Cassidy) Boyd, Jackie Cooper, Delores Del Rio, Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., Janet Gaynor, Harold Lloyd, Rod La Roque, Will Rogers, Mary Pickford, Charles Farrell, and many more contributed their own recipes for it.
Also among the pages are bios and photographs for some of the stars with the recipes they contributed. Will Rogers himself wrote the introduction (or foreword) of the book! The printed book has a soft cover and is divided into several sections including the following:
Canapes & Cocktails
Meats and Fowl
Bread and Rolls
Cakes and Cookies
Pies and Pastries
and an Index
Some of the interesting recipes you'll find here include selections such as: Casaba melon Cocktail by Zasu Pitts, New Orleans Creole Gumbo by Leatrice Joy, Lamb Curry and Rice by Edmund Lowe, Egg Plant A La Roland by Ruth Roland, Spaghetti Au Gratin by Janet Gaynor, Maple Sugar Biscuits by Richard Dix, Sweet Potato Waffles by Ruth Chatterton and so many more! Each one is written as the stars themselves wrote them so they each have their own personalities.
