Black Hawk Appalachian Style Gourmet Sauce by Jireh is a wonderful golden style BBQ sauce that works very well for many things. They are also coming out with a flavorful steak sauce soon so you'll want to check back on site and try that too. Their sauces are delicious and are a compliment to any meal!
When I first tried the golden sauce the first thing that hit me was the tangy taste and I thought how perfect it would be on meats but also in a Sweet & Sour recipe so I created a recipe using it and it was delicious! They also offer a Spicy version which is just as delicious with a bit more of a bite to it for even more flavor bursting taste!
Recipe I enjoyed using the sauce with is as follows:
Deb's Sweet & Sour Pork with Golden Sauce
1 1/2 lbs boneless pork cubed
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. cooking oil
dash pepper
1/2 cup BlackHawk Golden Blend Sauce
1 can pineapple tidbits or chunks (reserve 1/2 cup of the juice)
2 TBSP soy sauce
1 tsp grated ginger
1/2 onion sliced and sauteed
1 green bell pepper sliced
1/2 c. maraschino cherries with juice
1 TBSP cornstarch
1 TBSP cold water
In a heavy skillet over medium heat, cook pork a few minutes then add onions and bell peppers to the pork and continue cooking until pork is browned. Season with salt and pepper. Drain pineapple and Maraschino cherries and set fruit aside. Put the pineapple and maraschino juices into a small bowl and add BlackHawk Golden Blend Sauce, Soy Sauce, and grated ginger. Mix well. Pour the sauce mixture over the meat in the skillet. Cover and simmer for 45 minutes to an hour, or until pork is very tender. Combine the cornstarch with the cold water, stirring until smooth. Add to pork mixture and stir, cooking, until thickened. Add reserved pineapple and Maraschino cherries and heat through. Serve over rice.
Another use I enjoyed with this was adding a little to the traditional "Green Bean Casserole". It added just the right jazz to it! I got tired of the bland taste of that dish and just adding a touch of this sauce spiced it right up.
There are so many ways to use these sauces.. The website lists many different uses including:
Marinade, bastes and dips
Pretzel dip (very good for this too)
Drizzled on omelets
Spice up a favorite stew recipe
Use it on raw or cooked veggie chips or as a salad dressing.
Great on venison or turkey (I'll have to try that on the venison in my freezer soon!)
Your imagination is the limit with this tangy sauce! It's been a family secret recipe for thirty years now and I bet they've had more than a few offers to get it. This gourmet sauce is sweeping the grilling industry. 10 months of taste test against the leading gourmet sauces put Blackhawk's Golden Blend on top! Don't forget to check out the spicy version as well as the soon to be online steak sauce!
On their website you'll find purchase locations as well as recipes & uses testimonials and see for yourself how far this golden blend BBQ sauce has gotten!
