A good way to support yourself to become more successful is to find the right mentor. Look for someone who’s been successful in your chosen field. Then ask for their guidance and listen to their advice.
Most successful people like to help others. It makes them feel good, especially if someone takes the advice and uses it wisely. So pick a brain – but not just any brain. Go right to the top. Seek out the most successful people you know. You’ll probably be surprised at their response.
It’s been said that “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” When you’re ready to start checking out some new avenues and make some changes in your life, just look around you. The best teacher might be someone new or they may have always been part of your life and, in the past, you just weren’t ready to take their advice.
I’ve had numerous positive mentors in my life. One of my first was when I decided to get serious about becoming a successful entrepreneur. At that point, I swallowed my pride and asked my Dad for coaching. He knew me as well as anybody and, after having forty years experience managing his own company, he cut right to the quick and told me exactly what I needed to do. In just a few moments sitting on a park bench, I got a million dollars worth of straight advice and Dad got to make a very positive difference for one of his children. It was good for both of us.
So look for the people you know or would like to know that you believe have something of value to offer and ask them if they’d be willing to let you pick their brain sometime. Be bold and straightforward. All they can say is “yes” or “no.” If they say “yes,” that’s great. If they say “no,” that’s fine too. Just ask someone else and keep going until you get what you want.
That’s my good advice. Put it to good use and it’ll make me feel good!
