Pagan Traditions

There are so many labels out there for each branch of Paganism. Even if you think you have figured one label out, there will be groups that are offshoots of other groups.

All of this can be incredibly confusing for the beginner or even experienced Pagan. In the Traditions series of articles, we will explore just what some of these groups are about from their origins to where they are today.

The term tradition implies something that has been practiced for generations. In fact, most modern Pagan traditions have been around a much shorter time. When you hear this term in Pagan circles, it is usually used in the context of a certain group practice of Paganism such as Wicca and its many variants, witchcraft, shamanism, Goddess spirituality, Druidry, reconstructionism from different cultural perspectives such as Celtic, and other paths.

Below are links to the articles in the Traditions series which will be continually growing.

Goddess Spirituality
What's with all this Goddess talk? Do all Goddess worshippers hate God? Some groups do exclude the God aspect. However, these groups usually focus enhancing women's lives and environmental activism rather than excluding men. In this article, we take a look at two authors that had a tremendous impact on the Goddess Spirituality movement, Starhawk and Z. Budapest. Learn the truth behind the stereotypes of those that follow this path.

Reconstructionism
While reconstructionist movements aren't new, they are gaining in popularity. If you have been involved in Pagan internet forums you've heard the buzz. Celtic, Greek, Egyptian, and Norse reconstructionism are all paths that are growing in momentum. Learn what practitioners of this path are trying to accomplish and why they sometimes get a bad rap.

Wicca
Learn the history and main beliefs behind what is arguably the most popular neopagan religion today.
