Newest Article: Your Aging Herp

URL: http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art42380.asp/zzz

Synopsis: Suggestions for spotting and dealing with aging in reptiles and amphibians.

*** There are several new links on the site. Check it out!***

Herp of the Week: Sulcata Tortoise

Scientific Name: Geochelone Sulcata

Informational Site: http://www.anapsid.org/sulcata.html

Description: These tortoises have excellent personalities but grow too large for most average keepers (80-110 lbs) and will outlive their keepers if cared for properly (100-150 years). They require large amounts of food, plenty of space, and temps between 85 and 105 during the day with drops into the 70s at night. Check out Melissa Kaplan’s site for more information!

Site of the Week: http://www.baskingspot.com/

Review: An excellent and very useful site with information on just about anything and everything herp related.

Item of the Week: Critter Cages

Site: http://www.all-glass.com/products/cages/crittercage.shtml

Review: An old favorite. These have been around for years. The tops are lockable and slide in and out readily. The downside is that any lighting is readily viewing atop the cages. The upside is that there is a hole in the floor with a cap allowing the cabled of any internal electrical items such as hot rocks to pass through. The screens are strong, though I have recently discovered they can only handle cats laying on them for so long (a problem that I’d been fighting for some time). The screen was easily popped back into place, and the cats are now suitably afraid of the screen. The gecko in question was unharmed.
