Fat Blogs

Weblogs or blogs can be found at every twist and turn as you surf the internet. Blogs offer an easy mode for people to express their opinions on any topic on a regular basis. Some are professional, some are a hobby. Some are controversial. Some are masterpieces. Some are advertising. Many have long been forgotten. All have one purpose -- connecting with a community.

Check out some of my favourite size-friendly blogs. You'll probably see another ongoing theme. Some I visit often others are occasionally. Do I expect you to love them all? No, but I'm sure you'll find at least one you'll want to visit again.

Big Fat Blog This fat acceptance weblog challenges the media's outcry against the overweight and obese. It is maintained by Paul McAleer. It has been an excellent source for education and opinion for over five years and shows no signs of fading away. Lucky for us. You need to sign up to become a part of this community blog.

Fatshadow Tish stumbles on and through a number of issues related to fat people as well as working through issues in her personal life. She's also been online for five years. I don't get here as much as I'd like but it's worth checking out to see what she's analyzing. You have to click on "About" to find the archives.

Fatty McBlog First off I love their subtitle: We're not here to lose the weight, we're here to gain your hearts. This site is run by Lindsey and Emily two women who "like to discuss their fatness". Anything goes. These two have been know to perform some tests of their own. There's the occasional swear or two so if it offends, you might want to stay clear.

Fattypatties This blog has also been around for a long time. Pattie Thomas is a medical sociologist and author of Taking of Space. She also has lupus. Read about her daily efforts and views on fat people and society.

Feminist Reprise Or Amy's Brain Today. Amy is a "life-loving fat lesbian separatist feminist" whose blog is both entertaining and educational. She discusses everything from sexual abuse, women's rights through to cats.

Hugging & Chalking Rosabelle Magee talks openly about obesity, the media and the movement. She only blogs one or two times a month. Some of her posts are make me think and some make me wiggle in my chair.

Poundy or Pound This blog is written by author Wendy McClure and has been online for over five years as well. She started out discussing "body image, weight issues, and diet culture"; although it is less so these days it is still mildly amusing. She is the author of I'm Not the New Me.

The Pretty Pear It use to be Girly Blog for Fat and Fabulous Women. Colleen bought a new domain name that is easy to read and pretty to look at. She shares her views on books, fashion and life in general. Some of the posts just happen to be about weight issues. Here's one of my favourite posts - That's a Compliment? It's a little slow at the moment but check out the archives for her interesting dialogue.

Red # 3 This isn't just a fat conscious blog, it also deals with other issues in the work and in the writer's immediate vicinity. Brian only posts once or twice a month.

Red Polka (dot) It is run by a feminist, activist and fat chick (and so much more) named April. This blog hasn't been updated since January but her live journal link is pretty regular. The postings are short and sweet making it easy to pop in and out. Lively. I personally miss the red polka blog format.
