A memory improvement system needs to be based on a positive mental attitude. If you say, for example, “I always forget where I put my keys,” guess what? You will always misplace your keys. But if you say, “I'll remember,” then you will. Maybe not right away, but you will eventually remember.
Any memory improvement system needs a positive mental attitude to help keep you alert. Samuel Johnson once said, “The art of memory is the art of attention.” This is true. So stay focused and pay attention. Be conscious when you set your keys down. The more you notice, the more triggers you’ll have to stimulate memory.
And learn to relax. Stress and a good memory work against each other. It’s hard to remember something specific when you have too much on your mind. Learning to meditate and practicing deep breathing techniques have both been shown to be powerful ways to help improve your memory.
Organization and daily routines are also extremely helpful. It’s easy to find your keys when you have a place for everything and keep everything (including your keys) in its place. Make plans for each month, week and day. Have a list of what you want to accomplish and imagine yourself doing it. Mental rehearsal definitely reinforces memory.
Routine memorizing is dreadfully boring and not very useful, but mental pictures empower memory and can be a lot of fun. For example, use comical imagery to help you remember people’s names. Picture Long, Tall Sally and Handy Andy.
It’s been said that “the sweetest sound to anyone is the sound of their own name.” So, if you want to never be embarrassed again forgetting someone’s name, I highly recommend that you check out the free easy, fun and guaranteed seven day mini-course called Winning the Name Game. It’s been proven to work!
Contrary to popular belief, loss of memory is not something that naturally comes along with age. A good memory is not something we have and them lose along the way. And, in the majority of cases, memory loss has nothing to do with "hardening of the arteries' or Alzheimer's disease. Rather, memory power is a skill that's learned and developed, practiced and perfected. A lazy brain is far more at risk for forgetfullness than a brain that gets regular exercise. Think of the old adage - "use it or lose it."
Regardless of age, mental exercises build new connections between nerve cells that can help your brain store and retrieve memories. So make staying physically, mentally and socially active part of your memory improvement system. Use every opportunity you can find to exercise your mind. It’ll keep you sharp and agile. Start a new hobby, study Spanish, become a birdwatcher or do whatever it takes to keep your brain working at full capacity.
My recommendation is Winning the Name Game.
