What’s you’re vision? Can you see it really happening for you? If you’re not focused on what you want, and imagining it as a reality, what do you have your attention on?
Someone once said, “Be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it.” Well, the same holds true for anything you’re paying attention to. There’s stuff in this world you like and stuff you don’t like. You have the power to focus on whichever you choose. And, whatever you focus on has a dramatic effect on what you end up with and the overall quality of your life.
Take TV for example. If you watch the news, it’s nearly impossible to escape the pictures of crime, catastrophe, terror, tyranny, plague and pestilence. But, when you focus your attention on this doom and gloom (and there’s plenty to choose from), it can make you feel sad, angry or afraid. And, as Yoda says (every time I watch Star Wars), “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”
It’s not the newscaster’s fault that troubled images make up 99% of news programs. News is a business. And, if people wanted happy news, that’s what they’d be getting. But, the average person wants soap opera, gossip and horror shows. It’s okay. We’re all free to make our own choice and there’s nothing wrong with that choice.
But, if you want a better than average life – more health, wealth, happiness, love and success – you can’t just do what the average person does and expect to get better than average results. You have to be more rigorous with your self-discipline and focus your attention on what it is you want, not on what you don’t want.
Here’s the truth. News programs lie. They distort the statistics. For instance, in the U.S. there are 300 million people walking around free and 2 million in jail. The news focuses on the incarcerated rather than the vast majority of people who are basically law abiding, hard working and happy. Just look around you and, more than likely, you’ll see very little disaster within your immediate scope.
However, out of the 6.593 billion people on earth, you’re bound to get some rotten eggs. And, yes, there are floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, volcano eruptions and other disasters. But, in reality the bad news is not 99% of what’s going on. In fact, it’s not even ½ of 1%. It’s miniscule in relation to the whole. And, if you want to create a better than average life for yourself, you need to put things in perspective and start focusing on the good side.
What you see is what you get and you’re going to find exactly what you’re looking for. If you look for trouble, that’s what you’ll get. But, joy, peace, happiness, success and satisfaction are only a glance away. So, polish up your vision, keep your eye on the goal and watch for that silver lining. Because whatever you can see and believe, you can receive and achieve.
