Draw the Candle Wax Inside the Candle Jar -2

  1. Use the Pathfinder panel again to cut the top curve of the wax candle.

Select both the candle and the ellipse. In the Pathfinder panel, click the Divide icon. Then, click Object – Ungroup. Deselect. With the Direct Selection tool, select only the two halves of the ellipse. Click Edit – Cut to remove the ellipse and create the curved edge of the wax candle.

  2. Use the Ellipse tool to draw the top of the candle.

Right now, the wax candle doesn't look very waxy. We can change that using the Inner Glow filter. Instead of using a dark color with this filter to create a glass appearance, we will use white to add a waxy glow to our candle. Select the body of the candle and click Effects – Stylize – Inner Glow and set the following values in the dialog box. Notice that this time we are using the Overlay Mode instead of the Normal mode.

    Color Square: ffffff
    Mode: Overlay
    Opacity: 75%
    Blur: 30 px
    Edge

  3. Repeat the last step for the top ellipse. Because the ellipse is smaller, set the Blur to only 10px.

    Color Square: ffffff
    Mode: Overlay
    Opacity: 75%
    Blur: 10 px
    Edge

  4. With the ellipse still selected, set the Stroke to null. Repeat this for the body of the candle.
